Pupil Premium Information

Pupil Premium is money given to the school to help to support our most disadvantaged children. Children who are eligible for free school meals attract pupil premium funding for 6 years from the date they register for free school meals.  The child doesn’t actually have to receive a free school meal ( they may prefer to bring their own packed lunch) but they need to be registered for the school to receive the Pupil Premium funding.  

 

The purpose of the Pupil Premium grant is to:

-raise the attainment of disadvantaged children and narrow the gaps with their peers

-support pupils with parents in the armed forces


The FSM grant may be spent by the school for the purposes of the school; that is to say for the educational benefit of pupils registered at that school and on community facilities that benefit the pupils at the school or their families.

The grant does not have to be fully spent during the financial year in which it is awarded; it can be carried over for future financial years.

In our school numbers of Pupil Premium children are low and the grant has been used to pay for a wide range of initiatives including staff training, resources for support sessions, the employment of support staff  and 1:1 Teachers,after school clubs, educational visits and music lessons.

Please note that Territorial army personnel are not classified as ‘regular’ forces personnel and therefore they do not attract this funding.

Accountability

It is for schools to decide how the pupil premium allocated to their school is spent.  Schools will be held accountable for their use of the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families and the impact this has on educational attainment.  

If your child does not currently have Free School Meals, but you feel they may be eligible, please contact the school office (in confidence) to register them. Even if you do not wish them to have the meals, the school could still claim Pupil Premium Funding which could be used to help your child.
