Pupil Leadership and Formation

At St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, pupils are actively encouraged to grow as leaders of prayer and faith as part of their spiritual formation. Through our Annual Plan of Provision (APOP) for Prayer and Liturgy, pupils are supported to develop confidence, reverence and a deeper understanding of their role within the worshipping community.

From the early years onwards, pupils are gradually introduced to different forms of prayer and worship. As they move through the school, they are given increasing opportunities to take on leadership roles, including planning and leading Celebration of the Word, writing and leading prayers, and supporting whole-school and key stage liturgies. This progressive approach ensures that leadership is carefully nurtured and matched to pupils’ age and stage of development.

Pupil leadership in prayer is not only about participation, but about formation. Pupils learn how to pray with meaning, stillness and respect, and are encouraged to reflect on Scripture and respond thoughtfully through prayer, action and service. Older pupils are supported to make links between prayer, Catholic Social Teaching and living out their faith through service to others.

Through these opportunities, pupils at St Anne’s grow in independence, responsibility and confidence, becoming role models for others and active contributors to the prayer life of the school. This approach helps to form pupils who understand that faith is lived, shared and expressed through both prayer and action.
