What is Cultural Capital?
Cultural Capital is the knowledge, behaviours and skills that children need in order to prepare them to be successful in society. It draws on their cultural awareness, knowledge and competence with the aim of exposing children to different life experiences. It helps children achieve goals, become successful and support their next stage of education and in the world of work.
How is Cultural Capital implemented at St Anne's Catholic Primary School?
At St Anne’s we aim to provide our children with experiences and opportunities to explore the world around them, ask questions and take part in interesting and stimulating experiences.
This may include:
Finding out about the local area and visiting different places such as Nantwich Lake, Nantwich Museum and Library, the River Weaver, St. Anne's and St Mary's Churches, the Civic Centre and others.
Learning about people in our community such as local businesses and the emergency services.
Being involved in a charity events and fundraising such as Nantwich Foodbank, MacMillan, St. Luke's hospice, CAFOD, Water Aid.
Celebrating different cultures, traditions and faiths
Learning beyond the classroom
Taking part in sport competitions
Learning about road safety, rail safety, fire safety and water safety
Learning about inspirational people
Having fun and working as a team
St. Anne's is fortunate to have close links with St. Thomas Mores High School, Brine Leas and Malbank Secondary Schools. We visit these schools often for sports events and other extra-curricular activities.
As part of the Nantwich Education Partnership, St. Anne's works closely with the local Primary Schools and Secondary Schools to organise town wide events and initiatives to engage young people in the Nantwich area.
St. Anne's has very close links with St. Anne's Church; our children and staff will go to Mass and celebrations at Church at least once per term. Fr Tony and the Deacons visit school regularly. We also invite our local parishioners and residents to come into school for special events such as our firework extravaganza or Advent celebrations.
St. Anne's pupils will regularly go out into the community to raise money for local and national charities and take part in other community events such as litter picking and music events. Our fabulous Community Hub on our site is used by all groups in the community such as Scouts, the Deanery, knitting group, birthday parties etc.
St. Anne's also have strong links with the local Church of England Church, St. Mary's. Reverend Mark quite often leads assemblies and we visit St. Mary's quite regularly for Easter and Advent events.
Each year we map our cultural capital experiences to our curriculum.
