Governance at St. Anne's

Statement of Governance 2025

As a governing body, we are proud to have worked with the staff and children of St Anne’s Catholic Primary School throughout the last academic year, keeping “Christ at the heart of all we do.” Mrs Ferguson, her leadership team and all members of staff are constantly seeking ways to raise standards and provide the best education possible for our wonderful children so that each one of them can thrive and achieve his or her potential. The governors extend our thanks to every member of the team.

The school has continued to work hard to further develop an ambitious curriculum, which inspires and motivates the children, encouraging them to be the best they can be and to understand the context in which they live, placing the teaching of the Catholic Church and British values at the centre. There has been a sustained focus on developing the school’s assessment process and on developing writing skills. The school has been especially proud to have had a very successful Section 8 Ofsted inspection, which judged the school to be ‘good’ for overall effectiveness, noting in particular the children’s excellent behaviour, the wide range of opportunities available to them and the strong relationships which permeate school life. Other achievements in 2024/2025 also include the school taking part in many more sporting events, increasing our number of trips and visits, improving our school site and developing our pastoral support for our most vulnerable pupils.

We are grateful to the PTA, who have continued to work hard to raise money for the school, as well as providing much appreciated and enjoyable social events, such as Bedtime Stories, Christmas Event, Bingo, Summer discos, colour raffle alongside many others.

The governing body welcomed two new parent-elected governors and has continued to develop. In the last school year, the governing body has carried out a self-evaluation exercise in order to identify how we can be more effective in carrying out our core functions of providing strategic leadership, holding school leaders to account and ensuring fiscal responsibility. In focusing on the vision, values and ethos of St Anne’s, we have incorporated a statement on the importance of preparing children for a rapidly changing future, to the school’s vision statement. Many
governors are regular visitors to the school, which aids us in ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding, health and safety, financial monitoring, the quality of religious education, support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We look forward to supporting the school in the next academic year as it builds on the successes of 2024/25.

I would like to thank all parents, carers and the school community for their continued efforts as we work together to continue to provide a safe and exciting learning environment for our children.
